Hello Blogosphere!

Hello Blogosphere, my name is Martha Lucía, welcome to my new blog!

I suppose this is the point where I tell you that I’ve always wanted to be a writer or influencer, but that won’t be the case at all. I have always just loved being invisible! At school I was incredibly shy. When asked a question by the teacher in class I wouldn’t speak, even if I knew the answer. I would prefer to be quiet and go unnoticed.

As I got older, this didn’t really change much. I dropped out of college a year early because I didn’t enjoy it and I had no clue what I wanted to do. The only thing I remember is wanting to earn my own money and do my own thing. Once I left college I told my dad I didn’t want to study anymore and he said “That’s fine with me but you need to get a job! If you’re living under my roof you need to pay your own way”, so that’s what I did! I started working in retail just before my 16th birthday. The job left a lot to be desired but I loved my independence.

Since then, I have pretty much hopped around from industry to industry, not really knowing what would suit me best. I remember growing up and feeling slightly jealous of those people who would say things like “I’ve always wanted to be this” or “I always knew I would do that”. I never knew what I wanted to be or do and in all honesty, I never felt a deep or meaningful connection with any new industry I entered.

In February 2017 after 5 years of working as an Executive PA and feeling a lot of anxiety from being stuck in a routine that made me unhappy, I decided to quit my full time job. I had no idea what I was going to do but I knew that it was a decision I had to make there and then. I knew that from that point on I would need to do something for myself and ensure that whatever I did made me happy and enriched my life.

The day I quit my job I also posted a short video on Facebook about it, about why I had quit and how I was feeling. The responses I got were absolutely heart-warming. My video was shared and I started to receive messages from people that I didn’t know or that I hadn’t spoken to in 10 years. The messages were all congratulatory or from people asking me for advice, asking to keep them informed of what I do next, or to tell me that my video had inspired them. It was then that I realised – if one short Facebook video can inspire a handful of people, how many more people can I inspire if I keep posting regularly?

It sparked the idea of creating a blog, something I’d started before and have always thought would be cool but just never had the drive or confidence to pursue long term. I started to ponder whether I could do it properly this time, whether I could put myself in the limelight and tuck away that shy little school girl and just start sharing my journey with other people. So here I am…

My aim is to connect with new people, share my journey, and maybe even inspire others along the way. You can expect to see me just doing day to day things, new activities, events, making new connections, sometimes being silly, but most importantly staying true to myself.
